Open Evening FAQs

It is now just two days until our fun filled Open Evening on Thursday 4th August at 7pm (yay!) so we thought we'd post some FAQs to give you a bit more information. If you're still scratching your head wondering about something, drop us an email at stmaryswomensrugby@gmail.com and we'll do our best to help!

Who can attend St. Mary's Women's Rugby Open Evening?
All females over the age of 18 can play women's rugby and are invited to our Open Evening. We have a girls youth team for females between 12-18 years- please get in touch if you or someone you know would like to try girls youth rugby.
If you have never played any kind of sport but would like to try something new, rugby is ideal! It is a sport in which there is a position for everyone irrespective of size, shape, age, experience, fitness levels. There will be complete coaching given to all players and safety is always our first consideration.
Most women that join have never played rugby before and many take up the sport in their late twenties/early thirties so there is really no excuse not to give it a go!

What clothing should I wear?
Any kind of gym or training clothing is fine. Hopefully the weather will be pleasant for our Open Evening so shorts or tracksuit bottoms plus a top/tshirt should be sufficient but on the off chance that it rains please bring some wet gear just in case!

What footwear should I wear?
Runners are fine but if you have astro runners, mouldies, blades or football boots these can be worn.

Are there changing and shower facilities?
There are female showers plus changing rooms in St. Mary’s College RFC.

Where is St. Mary’s College RFC located?
St. Mary’s College RFC is located on Templeville Road in Templeogue, Dublin 6W. Please see http://stmaryswomensrugby.blogspot.com/2011/07/location-of-st-marys-college-rfc.html for more details and directions.

Are there any public transport links to St. Mary’s?
Dublin bus number 54a travels from the City Centre to Tallaght and stops right outside the gate of St. Mary’s. Alternatively many buses serve Templeogue village which is just a 10 minute walk from the rugby club. Please see www.dublinbus.ie for more details or email us on stmaryswomensrugby@gmail.com if you have any queries.

What will events for the Open Evening consist of?
The Open Evening will consist of a tour of the facilities available in St. Mary’s College RFC, then a light training session consisting of some fun games and skills sessions, all completely non-contact. There will then be an opportunity to change and/or shower before heading upstairs into the bar for some food and drinks, and the chance to ask current players any questions you may have about women’s rugby or St. Mary’s.

Do I need to bring anything?
As mentioned above some wet gear would be a good idea just in case it rains! Full changing and shower facilities are available so bring shower gear and a change of clothes if desired. Food will be provided and the bar will be open for those who wish to avail!

Hope to see you all on Thursday evening for a little run around and lots of fun!
